Hughan and I recently visited Radisson Blu Port Elizabeth for a spa day at Amani Spa. They have many signature journeys on their spa menu but the one we had was the Himalayan Salt Crystal Ritual. It is a 90 minute restorative and energising massage using warm coconut oil, unique Himalayan salt crystals and flowing massage movements for pure balance and rejuvenation. The healing Himalayan salt crystals offer the benefit of increased immunity to disease while the beautiful lamp ionizes and purifies your space.
The treatment is similar to a hot stone therapy massage but the stones are slightly more rough and occasionally you feel a slight exfoliation during the massage. Below I have listed the benefits of this treatment:
- It prompts healthy blood sugar and helps lower your blood pressure.
- It supports a healthy respiratory system and sinuses.
- Boosts bone health and prevents muscle cramps (something I get often as a ballet dancer), by increasing the circulation and oxygenation of the muscles. The technique used, relaxes the muscles while relieving tension build up and decreases the risk of injury.
- The Heat from the crystals causes your heart rate to rise and blood vessels to dilate. This promotes the flow of blood and thus improves circulation.
- Lightly exfoliates the skin.
- Relieves anxiety and addresses insomnia: this form of massage leaves your muscles relaxed and helps to clear your mind leading to an undisturbed nights rest.
I’ve left this one for last because it’s my favourite one. I suffer from slight insomnia. There are nights I get just naps in, there are nights I lay awake and stare at the ceiling for hours and there are nights that my brain refuses to switch off no matter how tired I am and I overthink any and everything. Keep in mind I got engaged 3 days before our treatment so my mind was still super excited about everything and getting used to my new “fiancé” title so because of all the excitement, I wasn’t really sleeping well. Then I had the Himalayan salt crystal ritual and WOW! the way I slept that night was like a princess aurora type slumber. I actually even fell asleep for a bit during the treatment.
It was amazing! So relaxing that I felt a little like jelly when I had to get up. Thankfully they let you take your time getting up and they had a set up a fruit platter with champagne for us after pur treatment to congratulate us on our engagement and relax a little further. How Sweet!? The staff are great and they really know what they are doing. They consistently ask if you need anything and if you are ok. Amazing service! Thank you so much Radisson Blu and Amani Spa’s.
The treatment will cost you R1350pp and the spa is open from 8am-8pm Monday – Sunday. Their current March special is on their jewel of Africa journey. The Treatment involves using ancient Masai Warrior Rengu Sticks for long deep pressure strokes that help improve muscle relaxation, pain reduction and improve blood and lymph circulation. The cost of this treatment is R900 until the end of March saving you R450!!
Now I know you may be worried about the Corona Virus at this stage however Radisson Blu and Amani spa’s would like to reassure you that they have put safety measures in place. Each Area has access to hand sanitisers for therapists as well as guests. Therapists wash their hands with soap before and after each treatment and will use hand sanitiser in between. They have cleaning protocols in place in which they disinfect all tools and spaces used before and after each treatment as well as their “behind the scenes” areas. Facilities with risk of “high contact” surfaces such as the steam room, sauna, jacuzzi and rasul will no longer be available for use. Amani Spa is also in the process of manufacturing specific Hand Sanitiser and anti-bacterial Hand Lotion and other products to help protect and safeguard their employees, guests, colleagues, clients, and partners. Amani spa will remain open at this stage for you to continue to relax and enjoy your treatment.
