A quick anniversary escape destination

Hughan and I will be celebrating our 5 year anniversary together in the next few days, so I thought I’d jot down some escape destination ideas. While writing this, I thought of all the destinations I’ve visited before, places I’ve dreamed of visiting, and places Hughan and I have spoken about wanting to visit.

At the top of a lot of people’s list of romantic cities is Paris. People often say “Oh Paris is so lovely and they don’t call it the city of love for nothing” but it’s certainly not at the top of my list. I’ve been there before, around 9 years ago, and I remember Disneyland being the most fun I’ve ever had. It was the place I conquered my fears of going on a rollercoaster ( Because some friends forced me to.) but it just wouldn’t be the place that Hughan and I visit on a quick anniversary trip.

We have discussed wanting to visit Turkey and Japan before. We love the culture of both of these countries and it’s been a dream of ours to visit one of the two soon. So maybe a service like Travelstart can hook us up with some cheap flights so that we could make one of these our Honeymoon destination? *Fingers Crossed*

Another destination that’s made it onto my list is NEW YOOOORRRRRK, (Concrete jungle where dreams are made of). I mean, of course this would be on my list, I’ve had dreams of living in New York since I was a little girl. I’ve long dreamt of dressing up, heading to the theatre, and watching New York City Ballet perform “The Nutcracker” around Christmas time. Oh! and obviously getting a picture of myself calling a yellow cab before it takes me to Central Park, just like in the movies!

What other places could be on my list? London? Yes, I’ve been there before as well and it was amazing! I absolutely loved it and would go back in a heartbeat if I could. How about Italy? HELL YES! They have all my favourite foods, pizza for breakfast, pasta for lunch and gelato after every meal!

But there is one place I simply couldn’t get off my mind, and when I showed Hughan pictures of it he seemed to like it as well. At one point, we spoke about possibly wanting to make a joint trip with Turkey and this specific destination — GREECE! I close my eyes and imagine myself in a flowing dress twirling in-between the beautiful white buildings in Santorini. Our feet in the sand, sipping a G&T while watching the sunset on a beach in Mykonos.

I’ve done some research on the best things to do in Greece, so here’s a list of the Top 5 things I’d like to do on a quick anniversary trip:

1. The Highlights of Kefalonia Tour – You get to visit a few spots which include a wine tasting, the Melissani Cave for a boat ride, and a stop at Drogarati Cave. All stops and admissions are included in the price of around R850pp.

2. A Picnic at the National Garden in Athens – It’s got beautiful greenery, duck ponds, a few historical monuments, picnic benches, and even a little zoo. Plus entry is free!

3. Wine tasting – There are a few wine tours to choose from but a lot of these seem to be quite pricey.

4. Watch a movie at the open-air Cinema – It’s located in the middle of a forest and costs around R130.

5. A walk down Ermou Street – This is apparently the main shopping street in Athens, so best believe THIS girl will be there!

So there you have it, my dream anniversary destination. Right now it’s a little out of reach because ADULTING but I’ve put it on my mood board and will make it happen soon! For now, I’ll keep it local. I’d like us to visit Sun City and stop over at Gold Reef City for a day before heading back home. Both of us have never been to either so I’m adding this to the mood board as well. Travelstart has Sun City packages that are definitely worth checking out if anyone else is interested.
